Uba Sani Links Poverty to Rising Insecurity in Northern Nigeria
Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani has attributed the growing insecurity in Northern Nigeria to widespread poverty, calling for urgent economic interventions to address the crisis.
Speaking at a recent event, Sani emphasized that poverty levels in the North-West have remained alarmingly high, hovering between 65% and 70%. He warned that economic hardship has fueled criminal activities, including banditry, terrorism, and kidnappings, making life increasingly difficult for residents.
The governor stressed that agriculture remains a key solution, highlighting efforts to support smallholder farmers and provide financial aid to struggling communities. He also called for local government autonomy, arguing that empowering grassroots leadership is essential for tackling poverty and insecurity.
Sani’s remarks come amid broader discussions on Nigeria’s economic challenges, with many experts urging the government to implement long-term structural reforms to uplift the region.
