Russia Launches Largest Drone Attack on Ukraine Amid Failed Ceasefire Talks

Kyiv, Ukraine – May 18, 2025 – Russia has unleashed its most intense drone barrage on Ukraine since the full-scale invasion began. Ukrainian officials reported that 273 drones were launched overnight, primarily targeting Kyiv, Dnipropetrovsk, and Donetsk regions.

The attack comes just days after direct peace talks between Russia and Ukraine in Istanbul failed to produce a ceasefire agreement. While both sides agreed to exchange 1,000 prisoners of war, Russian President Vladimir Putin rejected Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s offer for a face-to-face meeting.

Ukraine’s air force confirmed that 88 drones were intercepted, while 128 were likely jammed electronically. Despite defense efforts, the strikes resulted in civilian casualties, including the death of a 28-year-old woman and injuries to three others, including a four-year-old child.

The escalation has drawn international attention, with U.S. President Donald Trump planning to speak with both Putin and Zelenskyy in an effort to broker peace. Meanwhile, Ukrainian officials condemned the attack, calling it “terror in its purest form” and urging stronger sanctions against Russia.

As tensions rise, the world watches closely to see whether diplomatic efforts can prevent further escalation in the ongoing conflict.
